Platform and Carriages Finished

Finally the platform and the three carriages are complete! It’s been quite a challenge making these on my CNC router but I’ve pulled it off. This 3D printer is getting closer and closer to completion.

After receiving my 90 degree chamfer end mill in the mail I got started chamfering all the edges of the platform and carriages. This was partially for looks and more so for giving additional clearance to the arms.

After that was done all I had to do was fit the little bearing joint parts. Each bearing joint part contains four 3x6x2.5mm bearings, and has two M3x10mm bolts going into either side which the part anchors from.

Two small M3 washers fit between the bearing joints and the sides of the platform or carriage. These tighten up and slack in the mechanism and should keep everything backlash free.

I’ll be receiving my arm jaw ends from my friend Bert tomorrow and expect to have the arms done in a few days. Unfortunately I’m still waiting on my belts so for now I might temporarily set everything up and just move the carriages around by hand and get a feel for how the machine will work.
